Guide for Authors

Manuscripts can only be submitted through our online system: https://egyjs.journals.ekb.eg/

All manuscript submissions are peer-reviewed before being accepted for publication.

In submitting a manuscript to The Egyptian Journal of Phycology, the authors affirm that the manuscript is not being submitted elsewhere. The corresponding author is required to sign the Copyright Release Form on behalf of all authors before processing of the manuscript can begin.

Manuscripts must be written in clear concise English and typed double spaced, printed with font size 12, on one side of A4 paper.

Original Articles should be prepared according to the following format:

Title: should have only the title, the name(s) and address(es) of the author(s), any necessary footnotes, and a short running title suitable for page headings. If the name of an organism is used in the title, an indication of its taxonomic position must be given. The authors of taxon names should only be used in titles when it is essential. The address for correspondence and offprint requests will be that of the first author unless otherwise indicated by means of a footnote. The corresponding author's e-mail (or fax number) should be included.

Abstract: of 200-250 words should be concise, informative and intelligible without reference to the main text. It should indicate both the main results and the main conclusions of the paper. Do not repeat information in the title or make references to the literature. Keywords: immediately following the abstract, list 6 to 10 keywords alphabetically, separated by commas.

Text: The following subheading should preferably be used in the main text: Introduction, Material and Methods Results, Discussion, Acknowledgement.

Introduction should give the background to the study and the purpose of the investigation in sufficient detail to introduce readers not experts in the particular area covered. It should not anticipate the Discussion.

Materials and Methods must provide enough information about the materials, techniques and analyses so that the work could be repeated.

Results all results of the study should be included. Present the findings in a logical order and draw attention to important details shown in the tables and figures. Cite each figure and table in the text in order of presentation as far as possible (e.g., Fig. 1 before Fig. 2, Table 1 before Table 2).

Discussion The significant results and their importance to the study and to the discipline in general should be discussed. Reference to illustrative material should be minimal and should be provided only when necessary to emphasize a specific interpretation. Repetition of the Introduction should be minimized. The Results and Discussion may be combined, in which case a Conclusions section might be advantageous, although it this section should be concise.

Acknowledgments should be given under a single heading at the end of the article.

References: The references in the text are cited by author and publication date. Do not use & between pairs of authors, for more than two authors, give the first author followed by "et al., in italic" and the year. Multiple references must be listed in chronological order (e.g Imam 1991; Hassan and Mohamed 1995; Shalaan et at., 1998). In the end of the paper, references should be typed single-spaced in alphabetical order. Each figure, in its final size, must be a separate TIFF, PDF, or JPEG format with a resolution of 300 dpi or higher. Figures should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals and, as far as possible, referred to sequentially in the text (Fig. 1), (Figs 2, 3), (Figs 1–4), etc. Legends for figures must be typed in sentence case (e.g., Fig. 1. Location map of the River Nile showing sampling sites). All terms, abbreviations, and symbols should correspond with those used in the text

Each photograph must contain a scale measure, be squared accurately, and be separated from other photographs in the plate by thin white lines.
